Battlefield 2042 is a multiplayer-only first-person shooter that transports you to a futuristic war environment in the year 2042. In this new era of global conflict, you fight side-by-side with up to 64 players (on PS4) in large-scale battles - on land, at sea and in the air.
A special highlight is the Battlefield Portal - an editor that allows you to create your own game modes or experience nostalgic scenarios from previous Battlefield games. You can combine weapons, vehicles and maps from titles such as Battlefield 3, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1942.
On PS4, the number of players has been limited to 64 (compared to 128 on PS5), and the maps are correspondingly more compact. Nevertheless, the gameplay remains intense - dynamic weather effects such as sandstorms or tornadoes provide surprising twists and turns in the middle of battle.
The PS4 version has some technical limitations, such as lower graphics quality or reduced depth of detail. Nevertheless, Battlefield 2042 remains an impressive multiplayer experience even on older hardware - especially thanks to regular updates and new content. The current "New Dawn" season includes a new map in an abandoned factory landscape as well as additional weapons and improvements to squad management.
