Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is a first-person shooter released in 1997 by Acclaim Entertainment for the Nintendo 64. It was one of the first games to take full advantage of the console's 3D capabilities, impressing players with an open, wild world where dinosaurs and other creatures battle against the player. In Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, the player takes on the role of Turok, a warrior who lives in an alternate dimension populated by dinosaurs and other dangerous creatures. The story follows Turok, who is on a mission to stop the Campaigner, an evil tyrant who wants to gain power over this dimension. The Campaigner has stolen a mystical "time crystal" that could destabilize the dimension, and Turok must stop him before he destroys the entire universe.
The story is heavily inspired by the Turok comic series, which dates back to the 1990s. The narrative is conveyed through cutscenes and the in-game environments, with the actual plot being driven by the gameplay itself.
