Super Mario Kart

Super Mario Kart was released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and is considered the forefather of all fun racers. The game brought the popular Mario universe to the racetrack for the first time - with a completely new concept that has inspired countless successors and imitators to this day.

In colorful 16-bit worlds, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi and other well-known characters compete in fast-paced kart races in Super Mario Kart. Each driver has their own strengths: Some are faster on the straights, others score points with better handling or higher acceleration.

Super Mario Kart is played from a pseudo 3D perspective (Mode 7 graphics), which gave the game a special look at the time and enabled a smooth driving experience. The race tracks are creatively designed - from classic asphalt to ghost houses and lava levels in the style of Bowser's castle.

A central element in Super Mario Kart is the use of items, which are collected via question mark boxes: Banana peels, tanks, stars and lightning bolts provide chaotic twists and turns and make every race unpredictable. This mix of skill and chance is the trademark of the series.

In addition to the Grand Prix mode with different levels of difficulty (50cc, 100cc, 150cc), Super Mario Kart also offers a time trial mode and the legendary battle mode, in which two players compete against each other and fight each other with items until one loses all their balloons.

With its innovative gameplay, charming design and fun multiplayer, Super Mario Kart shaped an entire genre and laid the foundation for one of Nintendo's most successful series. To this day, it continues to inspire with its easy accessibility and high replay value.
