F1 Pole Position 2 was released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and is aimed primarily at racing fans looking for a slightly more realistic gaming experience. As the successor to F1 Pole Position, the game builds on its predecessor and expands it with numerous improvements and new features - with a clear focus on Formula 1.
Instead of pure arcade action, F1 Pole Position 2 offers a more technical driving experience. You can adjust your vehicle in detail even before the start: From the gearbox to the downforce to the tires, many things can be adjusted to significantly influence the handling. If you choose your setup wisely, you can gain a decisive advantage on the track.
F1 Pole Position 2 offers several game modes - including a career mode in which you can prove your skills as a driver, as well as a time trial for fast lap chases. In the classic Grand Prix mode, you can experience complete race weekends with practice, qualifying and races, including pit stops and weather conditions. A two-player split-screen mode is also on board.
The races in F1 Pole Position 2 are shown from either the cockpit or chase perspective and use the familiar Mode 7 graphics of the SNES to create a credible feeling of speed and track layout. Although the presentation is kept functional, the driving experience is convincing - especially by the standards of the time.
F1 Pole Position 2 is not a cheerful fun racer, but is aimed at players who are enthusiastic about the technology and tactics of motorsport. Thanks to individual vehicle set-up, real Formula 1 elements and surprisingly challenging gameplay, the game stands out from many of its genre colleagues on the SNES - and offers an exciting racing experience with depth.
