The Lion King

The Lion King is a classic 2D platformer for the Super Nintendo developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive in 1994. The Lion King is based on the Disney film of the same name and lets players experience the exciting journey of Simba the lion cub - from carefree child to king of the savannah.

The Lion King closely follows the plot of the movie: As a young Simba, you start with playfully easy levels in which you jump, roar, swing on vines and leap onto animals. Later, as a full-grown lion, the gameplay becomes much more action-packed: Simba can now fight enemies with paw swipes and throws - on the way to the final duel with his evil uncle Scar.

The Lion King is particularly well-known for its beautiful 16-bit graphics, which lovingly recreate scenes and characters from the movie in great detail. The soundtrack - inspired by well-known songs such as "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" or "Circle of Life" - provides an atmospheric backdrop to the adventure and creates a real Disney flair.

The levels in The Lion King are varied: From the elephant graveyard to the steppe to the gloomy King's Rock. The game offers platform action as well as puzzle and timing passages - but the level of difficulty is quite high, especially in the later levels. Many players particularly remember the infamous giraffe and monkey jumping passages with a slight frustration factor.

Despite (or perhaps because of) this challenge, The Lion King on the SNES remains a cherished classic to this day. The Lion King combines the magic of the Disney movie with solid gameplay and is a must-have for fans of retro platformers and cartoon adventures.
