Donkey Kong 64 is an extensive 3D action adventure game developed by Rare exclusively for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. As the first 3D game in the Donkey Kong series, Donkey Kong 64 takes the popular monkey hero Donkey Kong on a huge adventure in which he and four other playable Kongs have to save his home island from the nasty villain King K. Rool.

In Donkey Kong 64, players explore a large, interconnected game world that is divided into several thematically different areas - including jungles, temples, factories and icy mountains. In each world, golden bananas, banana coins, bananas in five colors, fairies, keys and many other collectibles must be found.

The focus of Donkey Kong 64 is on switching between the five playable Kongs - Donkey, Diddy, Lanky, Tiny and Chunky - who each have individual abilities and weapons. Only with the clever use of all characters can puzzles be solved, secret areas reached and bosses defeated in Donkey Kong 64.

Technically, Donkey Kong 64 impressed with a huge 3D world, detailed graphics and a humorous, lively style. The soundtrack by Grant Kirkhope underlines the atmosphere with catchy, varied melodies. Donkey Kong 64 was one of the first N64 titles to require the Expansion Pak in order to take full advantage of the expanded technical possibilities.
