Hook

Hook, released in 1992 for the NES, is based on the movie of the same name starring Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman - and brings the fairytale adventure about Peter Pan and Captain Hook to the 8-bit console in classic platform game style.

In Hook, you take on the role of Peter Banning, who remembers that he is actually Peter Pan - and sets out to rescue his kidnapped children from the clutches of Captain Hook. On your journey through Neverland, you fight your way through pirate camps, enchanted forests, caves and the pirate ship itself.

The gameplay of Hook is typical for the time: side-scrolling levels in which you jump, fight and collect items. With your sword, and later with the ability to fly, you face hordes of enemies and search for hidden extras. You will occasionally be accompanied by Tinkerbell in Hook, who will give you hints or provide you with energy.

Hook's graphics are colourful and detailed by NES standards, with easily recognizable environments and characters. Hook's soundtrack picks up on melodies from the movie and creates a fairytale atmosphere.

Hook for the NES is a classic movie game with heart - an uncomplicated, charming adventure for fans of the movie and fans of nostalgic platform action. Hook is not a milestone, but a lovingly crafted piece of 8-bit Neverland.
