Asterix, released in 1993 for the NES, brings the famous Gallic heroes from the comic world of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo to the Nintendo console - with a classic platform adventure that is completely dedicated to the humor and style of the original.
In Asterix, you control Asterix, the clever warrior from the small Gallic village, who sets out to free his loyal friend Obelix from the hands of the Romans. The journey takes you through various regions of the Roman Empire - from Gaul to Egypt and Rome - always accompanied by typical enemies such as legionnaires, wild boars and pirates.
The gameplay of Asterix is classic: You jump over platforms, dodge obstacles and give the Romans a good thrashing with targeted blows. In between, you collect potions, power-ups and items to help you on your way. The controls are direct, the levels varied and quite tricky in places.
Graphically, Asterix is very successful by NES standards: The characters are easily recognizable, the backgrounds are rich in detail and the typical comic style has been lovingly transferred to the 8-bit format. The music and sound effects also capture the cheerful, adventurous atmosphere well.
Asterix for the NES is a charming, solid platform game with a lot of love for the comic strip. It combines classic platform gameplay with the world of the indomitable Gauls, making it a real highlight for fans of retro games and Franco-Belgian humor.
