Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands (jap. Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Nanatsu no Shima no Daibouken!) was released on April 24, 2008 by Bandai Namco for the Nintendo DS and combines the classic rhythm game action of the Taiko series with a story mode that is being developed for the first time in the series. In Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands, you take on the role of Don's apprentice who has to drum away villages and dojos on seven islands from the troublesome Dokon gang - an adventurous journey full of music, duels and challenges.

The game is played in Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands is played with two included "bachi pens" using the touch screen, with red and blue stylus strokes triggering sound and edge hits respectively - just like a real taiko drum simulator. In Dojo Conquest you conquer dojos in several island chapters, master boss battles, cleverly staged rhythm duels and tricky challenges. In Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands, you have to clear the Tamashii bar for each boss while watching out for bomb notes and visual obstacles.

Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands includes around 50 songs, including Namco originals and well-known anime theme songs; as a reward for progress, you not only unlock new tracks, but also costumes such as samurai helmets or armor. Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands also offers various unlock modes and special conditions - such as certain game or rank objectives or high Taiko counter values - which create additional appeal and long-term motivation for experienced players.

Although Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands was released exclusively in Japan, many players report that the menu navigation is intuitive enough to have fun even without knowing Japanese. The charming illustrations, the lovingly designed characters such as Don, Gigadon or the Dokon robot and the colorful world on seven islands give Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands a unique Japanese flair.

The scope of the story mode and the variety of songs and content make Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands a varied continuation of the popular series. Rhythm game fans, taiko collectors and retro gamers who appreciate DS import titles will be delighted with Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Great Adventure of the Seven Islands, which offers both nostalgia and creative game ideas.
