New Super Mario Bros. 2 was released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS and is the second part of the modern 2D platformer series on handhelds. As always, Princess Peach has been kidnapped - but this time it's all about one thing: coins, coins, coins! Nintendo has given the classic Mario gameplay loop a golden twist here. Your goal is not only to defeat Bowser and rescue Peach, but also to collect as many coins as possible - one million coins is the big (and crazy) goal! The big focus on coin collecting sets New Super Mario Bros. 2 apart from other installments in the series. It rewards exploration, speed and cleverness - and motivates you to play levels again and again to break the coin records. The save function is also flexible, ideal for on the go. The 3D effect of the 3DS is subtle, but provides more depth in the presentation - especially in the backgrounds and with jump effects. The graphics are clean, colorful and run smoothly.
