The Sega Dreamcast was a 128-bit home video game console developed by Sega and released in Japan in 1999 and in North America and Europe in 2000. It was Sega's last console and is considered to be one of the most innovative and advanced consoles of its time, even though it was not as commercially successful as Sega had hoped. The Dreamcast set new standards in terms of graphics, online gaming and game mechanics, but was unable to compete with the Sony PlayStation 2 and was withdrawn from the market in 2001.
