Ai Senshi Nicol (jap. 愛戦士ニコル, translated "Love Warrior Nicol") is an action-adventure game by Konami that was released exclusively for the Famicom Disk System on April 24, 1987. It was never released outside Japan and is considered one of the hidden gems of the system.
The game is played from a top-down perspective and is reminiscent of titles such as The Legend of Zelda. It consists of seven levels in which Nicol has to find three crystals, each containing a fragment of the transporter. For each fragment collected, the transporter is repaired and the next level is unlocked.
Ai Senshi Nicol offers a mixture of action, adventure and exploration with a captivating story and appealing presentation. The combination of shooter elements, RPG-like upgrades and the unique mechanics of the underground levels set it apart from other games of its time. It remains a fascinating example of the diversity and creativity of Famicom Disk System titles.
