Ever Grace for the PlayStation 2 is an action role-playing game that was released by FromSoftware in 2000. As one of the first PS2 RPGs, it offered a dark atmosphere and innovative gameplay elements, but was not convincing in all areas.
The story follows two protagonists - Darius, a swordsman, and Sharline, a housewife - who are transported to the mysterious world of Edinbury. There they must face a dark threat. The narrative style is characterized by mysterious symbolism and is reminiscent of a modern fairy tale.
Ever Grace makes it possible to switch between the two characters at save points. A special feature is the Palmira action system, in which pieces of equipment can be combined with crystals to improve the characters' abilities.
The graphics were appealing for the time, but not groundbreaking. The music, composed by Kota Hoshino, combines traditional Japanese instruments with electronic sounds, which contributes to a unique atmosphere.
However, critics criticized the slow game mechanics, the limited combat system and technical shortcomings such as stuttering in battles.
Despite its weaknesses, Ever Grace offers a unique entry into the PS2 RPG world and remains an interesting title for collectors and retro fans.
