Night Trap for the Panasonic 3DO is an interactive horror adventure game that was released in 1993 and attracted attention for its unique game mechanics and controversial content. The game combines movie sequences with point-and-click elements and became known for its innovative but sometimes controversial approach to interactive storytelling.
The plot of Night Trap revolves around a group of teenagers who are invited to a slumber party in a secluded house, but are threatened by mysterious supernatural beings - the so-called "S.C.A.T. agents". Your task as the player is to monitor the house via surveillance cameras and activate certain traps to save the teenagers from the attackers.
The game uses full-motion video (FMV), making it one of the first titles to use this technology on a home console. The player must make quick decisions and act strategically to influence the course of the story.
Although Night Trap was criticized in its time for its dark atmosphere and controversial themes, such as violence and eroticism, it remains a cult classic of the 90s and an important example of the early use of FMV games. It is a particularly fascinating experience for fans of interactive movies and retro horror games.
