Super Soccer is a classic soccer game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), which was developed by Human Entertainment and published by Nintendo in 1992. Super Soccer is one of the early sports games on the console and is primarily aimed at fans of uncomplicated, action-packed arcade soccer.
In Super Soccer, you take control of one of 16 national teams - including Germany, Brazil, Italy or Japan - and compete either in friendly mode or tournament mode. The aim of the tournament is to fight your way through to the final game, in which you finally face the so-called "Nintendo Team" - a fictitious, particularly strong team that acts as the final opponent.
The perspective in Super Soccer is slightly angled from above, which provides a good overview of the pitch. The controls in Super Soccer are kept simple: You can pass, shoot, slide or control the goalkeeper with just a few buttons. Particularly striking in Super Soccer is the so-called "super shot", a particularly powerful shot that flies towards the goal at high speed and is difficult to defend against.
Graphically, Super Soccer relies on the typical colorful 16-bit style of the early SNES era. The animations are fluid and the sound effects - from cheers to the final whistle - create a great atmosphere. The music in Super Soccer is catchy without distracting from the action.
Overall, Super Soccer offers a fast, entertaining soccer experience without complicated rules or realistic simulation. Super Soccer is particularly fun in two-player mode and is an uncomplicated, charming sports game - typical of the early 90s on the SNES.
