Lylat Wars

Lylat Wars is an action-packed 3D space shoot-'em-up released by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. As the successor to the SNES classic Star Fox, Lylat Wars puts the player in control of Fox McCloud, the leader of the Star Fox team, who must protect the Lylat system from the tyrannical Andross.

The majority of Lylat Wars consists of fast-paced, rail-shooter-style aerial combat in which the player maneuvers through predetermined flight paths, shoots down enemies and collects power-ups. In certain sections, Lylat Wars switches to "all-range mode", which allows free movement within a limited area - perfect for boss battles and larger duels.

The iconic Arwing spaceship is controlled in Lylat Wars, but other vehicles such as the Landmaster tank or a mini-submarine are also used in certain missions. Each run through Lylat Wars can differ greatly depending on the path chosen - which creates a high replay value.

Lylat Wars was one of the first N64 games with Rumble Pak support and therefore offered a more intense gaming experience. Graphically, Lylat Wars impresses with smooth 3D action, great explosions and varied environments. There is also full voice acting, which was unusual at the time and gives Lylat Wars a real arcade feel.

With its fast-paced gameplay, clever mission design and iconic characters like Falco, Slippy and Peppy, Lylat Wars is a true classic and one of the best action games on the Nintendo 64.
