Green Beret for the Famicom Disk System, also known internationally as Rush'n Attack, is a fast-paced 2D action platformer from Konami that was released exclusively in Japan in 1987. In classic arcade style, you take on the role of an elite soldier who has to fight his way alone through enemy lines to free captured comrades from an enemy military base.
Equipped with nothing but a knife, you start your mission in Green Beret, but along the way you will find additional weapons such as rocket launchers, flamethrowers and grenades to help you defeat the ever-increasing hordes of enemies. You move through four varied levels - including military bases, airfields and underground missile installations - while battling enemies such as soldiers, dogs and heavy artillery. Each section in Green Beret ends with a boss fight that will put your reflexes and timing to the test once again.
As is typical for Konami, Green Beret also offers a catchy soundtrack and precise gameplay with direct controls. The Famicom Disk version also scores points with save functions via the disk system and small differences to the arcade version, which make the game particularly interesting for collectors and fans. Despite being released in Japanese, the game can be played without any knowledge of the language - ideal for anyone who wants to experience that authentic arcade feeling on their Famicom console.
Whether you're looking for a real retro challenge or want to add a Konami classic to your collection: Green Beret is a gripping piece of 8-bit history that will delight action fans and nostalgics alike.
