Medarot DS: Kabuto Version for Nintendo DS takes you into a futuristic universe in which you, as Medarot Azuma Amakura, lead your own Medabot - the rhinoceros beetle-like Metabee - and compete against rival Medarots in spectacular tactical battles. Medarot DS: Kabuto Version was developed in Japan by Rocket Company and published by Imagineer on May 27, 2010.
Featuring modernized 3D battle scenes for the first time in the series, Medarot DS: Kabuto Version brings a fresh visual experience to the world of Medabots. The overworld of Medarot DS: Kabuto Version remains two-dimensional, while each battle is animated in real-time, making strategic planning even more exciting. In the Medarot DS: Kabuto version, you start with Metabee, a medabot that specializes in long-range weapons - in contrast to the Kuwagata version, in which you would start with the close combat focus robot Rokusho.
The game mechanics of Medarot DS: Kabuto Version combine in-depth role-playing elements with classic Medabots charm. You collect and combine medals and parts, plan skills precisely and increase your medal patents to be optimally positioned in battles. In addition to the single-player campaign, Medarot DS: Kabuto Version features multiplayer modes via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection: fight and trade Medarots online with friends, earn Meda-Gacha Coins and exchange rare items.
The graphic design of Medarot DS: Kabuto Version is based on the unmistakable design of Horuma Rin, the series' established artist, whose style is already familiar from early Medarot games. With the Medarot album, you can unlock complete bots and view them in 2D illustrations and detailed 3D models - including background information on each robot. For fans, there are also bonus materials such as promo cards for pre-orders and in-game image galleries.
As Medarot DS: Kabuto Version has been released exclusively in Japanese, no official translations are available - although fan groups have not yet created a full English version. Nevertheless, players report that even without a sound knowledge of Japanese, many game mechanics of Medarot DS: Kabuto Version remain understandable and the atmosphere is retained.
